Album by Luka Bloom
I had heard of Luka Bloom for years, but this was my first time really sitting with him as an artist — and inside the first minute, I was all in. Riverside is a beautifully melodic blend of acoustic folk and Irish folk, driven by rhythmic guitar and emotionally direct songwriting. Bloom’s delivery is earnest without being sentimental, and the melodies often carry a haunting undercurrent that lingers long after the songs end.
What really pulled me in, though, was his voice. There’s an intimacy to it that feels unfiltered — you don’t just hear him sing these songs, you feel him inside them. He laughs, he hoots, he pushes and pulls against the melody in a way that feels spontaneous and alive. The production leaves those moments in, and that looseness allows for an authenticity that hit me deep in my bones.
“Delirious” and “Over the Moon” showcase his gift for pairing driving acoustic patterns with instantly memorable hooks, while “You Couldn’t Have Come at a Better Time” feels like a quiet anthem about emotional rescue and perfect timing. “Gone to Pablo” carries a deep melancholy, balancing sorrow with an undercurrent of devotion that gives it the feel of a love song wrapped in loss. “The Man Is Alive” reads as a reflective tribute — a meditation on legacy, memory, and the way someone’s spirit can outlast their physical presence.
What stands out most is the consistency. The songwriting is strong throughout, the melodies are sharp, and the emotional tone never wavers. This feels like a complete record — thoughtful, cohesive, and fully realized. For me, it’s perfect. No skips. I’m just glad I finally found it.
Verdict: Great
