Prey (2022)

A young Comanche woman trying to prove herself as a hunter realizes something far more dangerous is stalking the plains.

Finally watched Prey, and man — these Predators really do love coming to Earth.

This is easily the best Predator sequel I’ve seen. I still have a soft spot for the original, where Arnold basically plays the Final Girl in a jungle slasher, and I enjoyed Predators more than I think I was supposed to. But Prey feels leaner and more focused than anything that followed.

And honestly, I probably would have liked this even if it weren’t a Predator movie. Give me a stripped-down period survival story about a group hunting something deadly in the wilderness and I’m in. The Comanche setting gives it texture without turning into a docudrama, and the film wisely keeps its focus tight.

It doesn’t reinvent the franchise — and that doesn’t matter to me. Just execute it well. Hook me with characters I care about. Give me clever action beats. Show me an underestimated, observant protagonist who adapts instead of postures. And yes — make me worry about the dog, and I’m in.

Amber Midthunder carries this with confidence. The tension works, the action is clean, and the simplicity is a strength. It’s not trying to be profound. It’s trying to be sharp, tense, and satisfying — and it succeeds.

Verdict: Good Time
