The Cool Cloud of Okayness (2024)

This was a new artist for me, and it ended up being the kind of album you don’t just put on. You really have to sit with it as it settle in.

It’s not built around hooks or big moments. Instead, it moves slowly, letting layers of sound fold into each other and build a quiet, immersive atmosphere.

The title track sets that tone right away. It feels like stepping into a dim, slightly surreal space — the kind of place where Twin Peaks might be playing on a television in the corner on a loop. A quiet jazz club where everything moves a little slower than expected. Calm, but with a strange edge that pulled me in.

“Seeing Glass” opens with a loose, jazzy rhythm before drifting into a soft, floating melody. “Glass Island” stays in that same space, blending gentle guitar, light percussion, and hushed vocals into something that feels as much like texture as it does a traditional song.

“Curling” might be the most fully realized moment here. The vocals melt into the music as the track slowly builds, never quite resolving but still holding your attention. The instrumental closer “Fresh Ending” wraps things up in a similar way — quiet, layered, and reflective without pushing toward anything dramatic.

Overall, this is a patient listen. It doesn’t reach out and grab you, but if you meet it where it is, there’s a lot to take in.There are some really beautiful, haunting moments here.

Verdict: Worth a Spin
