This is a real blend of sounds.There’s that jangly guitar tone that reminds me a bit of early R.E.M., mixed with sharper riffs that feel closer to The Smiths. Add in some of the pop instincts of Blondie, and it all sits in this slightly sneering, post-punk space.
What ties it together is how catchy it is. The riffs stick, the rhythms move, and the vocals sit just a little off-center in a way that gives everything more character.“Look Alive” is as good as anything here — it really feels like it could’ve been an alternative radio hit. “Catch” and “Sugarpop” bring in a bit more quirkiness, almost something like The B-52’s, but with a little more edge.
“B-Complex” stands out as an instrumental — built on a groove that just keeps pulling you along. “There It Is” keeps things moving with that same sense of momentum, fast and catchy without overthinking it.
“This/That” hits a little differently. It feels more serious, even if the lyrics come across a bit abstract — there’s still something emotional underneath it that comes through.
Tracks like “Crunch,” “Very Right,” “Metal,” and “Outside” lean a little harder. The riffs sharpen, the vocals pick up more bite, and everything feels a little more aggressive without losing that core sense of rhythm.
It’s a mix of styles, but it holds together really well. Slightly off-center, but always grounded in strong hooks.
Verdict: Good
