Album by Integrity

This is a sludgy mix of metal and hardcore that feels like it crawled straight out of the mud.

It’s heavy and constantly shifting. There are a lot of sudden turns where everything feels like it’s about to fall apart until it all comes back together through some kind of heavy metal alchemy.

All of the timing changes just reinforce my theory that some heavy metal is basically made by music nerds. And I mean that as a compliment.

The vocals sit somewhere between a growl and a scream, adding even more weight to everything. The guitars can sound like a train at full speed, then suddenly pull back into slower, more deliberate sections. The bass pops up in these wild moments underneath it all, and the drums always feel like they’re right on the edge of tipping over.

The songs don’t just blast straight through. They feel like they’re setting up some intricate Rube Goldberg machine, building tension, and then letting everything explode.

This isn’t usually my kind of thing, but there’s a lot going on that kept me interested.

Verdict: Worth A Spin
