Fear of a Punk Planet (1990)

This is super irreverent, catchy, California-style punk that just bounces along from start to finish.

Nothing here feels serious. The songs explode, reset, and jump into the next idea before you can sit with anything too long. It’s fast, loose, and very aware of how ridiculous it all is.

It also sounds pretty low budget — but in a way that works. There’s a scrappy, thrown-together feel to it that fits the attitude perfectly.

The sense of humor is everywhere. With titles like “Join Us for Pong,” “Hey Holmes,” and “Kill My Tenant,” it’s pretty clear what you’re getting into.

Even the cover choices lean into that — “Kokomo” and “Summer Lovin’” show up in ways that feel more like jokes than straight interpretations.

“Small Wonder” might be the strangest moment — basically a warped little story built around an ’80s sitcom, played completely straight while still feeling like a joke.

The whole thing feels like it’s winking at you the entire time.

It’s messy, it’s silly, and it doesn’t care.

Verdict: Worth a Spin
