A Bit of What You Fancy (1990)

This leans hard into that bluesy, roots rock sound — something that feels like a grandchild of The Rolling Stones and not too far off from bands like The Black Crowes.

It has that lived-in, down-and-dirty feel, but there’s still enough polish to keep it accessible to a casual listener. It’s loose, but controlled — the kind of rock that sounds like it’s been played in bars for years before it ever got recorded.

“7 O’Clock” sets the tone right away — catchy riff, big chorus, and that bluesy piano pushing everything forward. It’s loud, raucous, and ready to go.

“Man on the Loose” leans into that classic rock anthem feel, while “Sex Party” and “Misled” keep things moving with that same sense of momentum. “I Don’t Love You Anymore” slows things down for the expected ballad, with a bit of country creeping in.

“Long Time Comin’” and “Take Me Home” both gave me some Rod Stewart vibes — that same raspy, rootsy feel. And “There She Goes Again” adds a little R&B flavor into the mix.

It doesn’t try to reinvent anything. It just locks into that mid-’70s roots rock sound and rides it all the way through.

It’s fun, a little rough around the edges, and easy to settle into.

Verdict: Good
