EP by Ricochet Star
Dream pop and shoegaze often sound like music made for looking backward—memories blurred by time, relationships slipping away, or the loneliness of being lost inside your own thoughts. Every Moon is different.
The guitars and vocals create that familiar dreamlike atmosphere, but these songs feel intimate rather than isolated. The blur comes from that strange way time seems to disappear when you’re completely absorbed in another person.
Every Moon also has stronger pop instincts than I expected. For all the reverb and dreamy guitars, these are catchy songs with hooks that are easy to grab onto.
“By Your Hand” has an effortlessly melodic chorus, with vocals that seem to float over the music. It feels like that exhilarating early part of a relationship where everything is new and you haven’t quite figured out what it is yet.
The guitars on “Air Between Hours” step a little further forward, but what I love is the feeling the song creates. It captures that disorienting bliss of spending an entire day with someone you love and completely losing track of time because neither of you wants the moment to end.
“Slacker Pt. 2” has all the dreaminess, but there’s a subtle sense that everyday life is beginning to intrude. Self-sabotaging habits and the outside world that has been waiting beyond that intimate bubble start to creep back into focus.
The title track leans furthest toward indie pop, with some early-’90s alternative rock underneath it. I couldn’t quite decide how to read the song. Is it mourning someone who’s gone, or expressing such complete devotion that even a brief separation feels enormous?
What I liked most about Every Moon is how Ricochet Star uses a sound I usually associate with memory and distance to capture what it feels like to be completely absorbed in someone right now. The guitars blur together, time disappears, and you don’t particularly want either one to come back into focus and let the real world back in.
